WOW! I have been deeply moved and inspired by this book.
It was an adventure from beginning to end. I feel the need
to re-read it, to make sure I have not missed anything.
How did it change my world?
I think one theme of the book deals with thinking before acting.
Sometimes, in my hurried life I do not stop to think how my
actions or decisions are going to effect not only myself,
but, the planet.
Quinn's metaphors and examples are already popping into my
head on a daily basis.
Stop and consider not only the short term effects oh my actions
but the long term impacts my children will have to deal with
in the future.
"there are some who can live without wild things, and
some who cannot."
Aldo Leopold, Naturalist
Today, our world is over-populated, over skies polluted, our
waters contaminated and the streets congested. But, this can
all change if we all understand the environmental conssequesces
of our actions. Aldo's "wild things" are no longer
a matter of taste. They must now be preserved to save ourselves.
I wish everyone would read this book then quite possibly they
would be inspired, enriched and empowered to preserve and
protect our precious natural treasures.
In closing, I was sad and shocked by Ishmael's passing. I
felt like I lost a friend. I will always remember him.
I gave the book to my sister in law yesterday. I will let
you know what she thinks.
