reflections #3
wait for it, you told me
but then I never listen
least of all to you
the one I love the most
two souls dream as one
maybe my lesson is patience too
I understand now why you’re afraid
to leave it all behind you
the security you’ve found
the place you’ve forged
through battle scars and pain
they all know your name
there, in that faraway place
that seems like a memory
fleeting, floating on the hard reality of this place
I’m here now, maybe for the first time
here in a way I’ve never known how to be
feet moving to the beat
body screaming out in defiance and rage
for once I resign myself to the cage
of here and now
it’s powerful I’ve learned
maybe it’s not all about the lofty things
crushed to the earth I’ve found my wings
forced into silence I’ve learned how to sing
maybe now I’ll remember how to be free
now all I have to find is the balance
to walk the earth and soar the skies
and deja vu as I write these lines
I’ve said it all to you before
how many lifetimes have we moved in this dance?
the rain beats down hard from the grey sky
and I just want to stay in here and hide
it’s so hard to learn these lessons
maybe this is my first taste of weariness
this time
but I’ve seen the infinite potential of this earth dance
patterns you can only see from the corner of your eye
improvised steps
the old ones to push you to the right places
with a smile or glance
we don’t even realize we’re a piece of the pattern
